Nick Bautista, MD, obtained his medical degree from UERM in Manila, Philippines. He underwent post-graduate training in Makati Medical Center, after which he obtained his license to practice medicine in the Philippines. Before that, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from the Ateneo De Manila University.
He has done many different roles for the Guardian, including as a manager, a medical assistant, a records and billing clerk, a historian, a QA editor, and a liaison. One of the most important skills he has learned while doing all those roles was being able to adapt and apply solutions that provide the most benefit.
He learned the industry and how the company works so that he could solve problems or provide more value to the doctors. He considers this one of the most challenging experiences he had while working for the company because, aside from his medical experience, he had no knowledge of the medical-legal industry when he first started out. What helped him overcome this issue and shine was his co-workers and manager. They took the time to share their knowledge in building him up so he could do the same for the company. He takes this to heart and tries to do the same with the newer employees. As an MD, working here has allowed him to learn the value of evidence-based medicine. It inspires him to ensure that he is competent enough to provide the proper evaluation and treatment that is fair to all.
Working with The Guardian Group has provided him with the flexibility to pursue his goals and still be active in the realm of medicine. His work with The Guardian Group has allowed him to observe how the legal system interplays with medical decisions and vice-versa. It has also allowed him to network with various healthcare providers and gather their perspectives on the administrative side of healthcare.
When he is not working, he typically enjoys playing video games and building model kits. He also uses his time to motivate and educate medical graduates on the procedures required to gain admission into the American medical residency programs.
